about

I first started writing this song after a close friend of mine from back home passed away, but I didn’t finish it. One day Sean contacted me to do a Hanami party. It would have been me on acoustic guitar and him on vocals. He came to my apartment and we practiced some cover tunes, before I busted out this work in progress. We decided to finish writing it together and perform it at the party. However, the party was cancelled for some reason. Shortly after that, Sean was diagnosed and we never got a chance to finish it. When I heard the news of Sean’s passing, I felt inclined to complete it in his honor. I changed the words around a bit and added a new verse and bridge dedicating the song to Sean Deely.

lyrics

Prayer (by Jude)

I don’t know
Which way I’ll go
I may not know when I get there.

Cause I can’t see
In front of me.
Cause I’ve been blinded and jaded.

And I’ve been lying awake here
Wasting all my time.
Now the pendulum’s swaying.
Maybe I’ll see you again when
My sentence has been read.
Oh Lord just give my an hour in Heaven
Before the Devil knows I’m dead.

You spent your days
Finding so many ways
Of bringing people together

You stayed so strong
And you’d carried on
Until the last breath you’d taken

And I’ve been lying awake here
Wasting all my time.
Now the pendulum’s swaying.
Maybe I’ll see you again when
My sentence has been read.
Oh Lord just give my an hour in Heaven
Before the Devil knows I’m dead.

Maybe we’ll meet again some day
This world’s a temporary stay
So if I come to watch you play
Be sure to save a seat for me
Farewell ‘till then...

And I’ve been lying awake here
Wasting all my time.
Now the pendulum’s swaying.
Maybe I’ll see you again when
My sentence has been read.
Oh Lord just give my an hour in Heaven
Before the Devil knows I’m dead.
